I bought my 09 lexus rx350 new. Go to the same dealer every 5k. The car has 43k now witch I think is not a lot. The dealer said the steering rack is leaking and needs to be replaced for $1700. They said I can edit till next oil change in 5k.

Isn't this to early for the miles for the rack to go. Should I go to different dealer next oil change to see if the tell me to replace the rack. I live in Staten Island. Any one know which dealer has the best service department.

Search for this. Topic has been beaten to death. Short answer is you can either wait if its not bad or get another shop to install remanufactured one.

Steering rack leaking is a very common issue for the RX model, I purchased a 05 RX330 only 42K miles took to Lexus service and been told steering rack just about to start to leak went back to the dealer where I purchased the vehicle from asking for steering rack leak check and the service tech told me there is no leak, so I don't who to trust, what I should done is asking them to take a photo or show me the leak. I called Lexus customer service to address the issue since the vehicle out of warranty all Lexus can do is offer me $300 off for the repair.
