Default used oil disposal

I'm about to do my 350 oil change and for the people that have done their own oil changes, what do you do with your used oil? I have heard of people taking the used oil to gas stations and having to pay them for an oil disposal fee. I'm interested in hearing if there are other options or that only some places charge you for the disposal.

Our county runs a recycle station where I can drop off used motor oil. Many service stations around here will also let you dump used motor oil for free. I'd suggest a call to your local county or city government and see what they offer.

Advanced auto parts (formerly Track Auto) takes them. Check with your auto parts store. I've been taking mine to Advanced the past 4 years, was just there today dumping oil, they recycle old batteries too.

Walmart takes reasonable amount during business hours.

I suggest buying from a place which takes the used oil back.

Check solid waste and recycling programs of your city/county.

And hats off to you for being responsible

I have been using Advance Auto Parts for 10+ years. No issues whatsoever and no cost. I thought that PA has a rule that says if you sell oil, you must recover it. Regardless, most large auto chain stores take it in.

Or, mix with vinegar and eat lots of salad?

I have a friend who has a shop heater that burns used motor oil. He gets all my used motor oil.

All the oil change places (JiffyLube etc) out here in Cal take recycled oil.

I remember when I was a kid the neighbor just poured it either down the storm sewer or out in the vacant field.
Now days that would be a big fine, I just take it to the city waste yard where they have a big drum to put it in.
I even remember a rotory phone & even a party line.
