Default Transmission Filters Which is best ?

I am convinced I need to drop the pan and change filter ..the photos show a paper filter but the perts list shows metal screen

Does anybody know the difference between these filters and which is best?

If you have the metal screen in yours already, just clean it real good and re-install.

First there is no such thing as "best". All types have their limitations and will require different maintenance.

During production, Lexus seems to have switched from screen to paper-like. Was this done to reduce production cost or was it based on level of filteration .. we do not know.

All I can say is that over time the paper-like will trap more and become better filter [the best filter for filteration is the one that is clogged up ... Note: not necessarily best for flow].

If you switch over to paper-like filter, do change it more often ... or at least drop the pan to inspect.

special note, apparently some Toyota dealerships now have the metal screen filter back in stock, a guy on the toyota forums just ordered one and got the mess screen....go figure, I wonder if they felt the flow was wrong with the paper one...
