Default rx300 valve adjustment at 60k

Dealer indicates a valve adjustment is done at 60k service. It seems that Exact Motor in Milpitas did not seem to have that on their 60k list. Any thoughts or advice

I'm not sure of the interval for the RX300, but typically a valve inspection is done and an adjustment if needed, at some interval. Call another dealership tomorrow and ask what they recommend if no one else chimes in.

Dont do it unless you hear really loud click noises.... Mine has 143k and runs quiet, no valve adjustments ever done....

Hydraulic lifters eliminated the need for compensating for the wear. Everything has its limits and the valve lash might have been too much. Dont know how true it is but one of the view points is that if you use synthetic oil the lifters need a bit of time to fill up.

At 60K, what they are supposed to do is LISTEN to see if there is an issue with the valves, they aren't just supposed to go ahead and just adjust the valves and I really wouldn't expect them to have to adjust the valves at 60K either.

I hope some one can confirm if RX has hydraulic lifters or not.

I have read in the Maintenance Manual that they use shims to adjust valve gap on the RX300. This is the first car I've had that used shims.

I used to make fun of friends with Jaguars, who were outside shimming their valves. Oh well.

I agree that 60k-mi is way to early to need valve adjustment. Maybe that's part wishful thinking because I'm almost there myself. I used to check the valve gap and adjust (as necessary) on my VW and Mercedes-Benz every 2 years or 30k-mi. They each had only 8 valves!
