Default Hit by Garage Door

When parking my 2012 RX in garage, the garage door engaged and hit my car near the rear bumper damaging the finish on the bumper. Is there a quick fix to restore the look/color? Below is a pic showing the damage. Thanks for your comments/answers.

you can use touch up paint. but the damage seems like it needs to be filled and prepainted.

Yeah that is a pretty big area, touch-up paint will NOT look good. It might make it less noticeable from a distance, but with an area that big you really need it painted. It should be less than $500 from a paint shop.

If it was my car, that would be a body and paint shop repair. Anything else would stick out like a sore thumb every time I looked at it, but that's just me. I got our RX with the garage door just below the back window. It cost about $600 to repaint and blend Starfire Pearl (3 stage paint). They did a terrific job, and you can't tell it was repainted at all.

Thanks everyone! I will contact a paint shop to fill the area, and repaint.

If the car was parked it would be a comprehensive claim which would probably have a lower deductible.

You can always touch it up (maybe sand and fill first) and if you don't like the results, then take it to a body shop.

I have had better luck with spray paint, it won't be perfect but better than touch up paint. brush touch ups looks horrible at least I cant ever get them right. Get some painters tape and tape around the area get a matching spray can (eBay) and have a go. Usually a very light spray like a sec or less should take care of it. It not gone be factory but probably better than touch up and cost you about 25-30 bucks. I you want perfection then a good body should take care of this probably less than 300 bucks but your whole bumper would needs to get painted.

No one will do it better than a body shop. But should you try yourself..

Touch up with single step color match and wet sand to smooth out and blend. Good Luck!

There are 'bumper repair' shops as well. Cheaper than body shop and might be a good compromise. Check their work out first.

Door sensors are legally positioned to prevent injury/death to a child. One of these days, I will research into an additional safety switch positioned at bumper level. [Please do not raise them to protect the vehicle ... as vehicles can be repaired]
