Default 5W-20 Synthetic Oil

hi everyone.i asked this question over at bob is the oil guy, but i don think i asked it here. i have 3 jugs of pennzoil ultra 5W-20 synthetic motor oil in my oil stash and would like to use it in my 15 rx. does anybody think it would be bad to use it? i know they push the 0W-20 but its really for cafe standards more than anything.. and it does mention in the manual that it can be used. and must be changed in 5,000 miles. well i do 5,000 mile oil changes any way so no problem there. what do you guys think? i should probably limit it to the summer time i suppose. thanks

I would limit it to Summer use. I am surprised no one at bob is the oil guy responded. Maybe if you presented it as a Toyota? Have you gone to www.toyotanation.com to see if anyone there with a similar engine vehicle such as a Highlander has asked this question?

I found someone there also using 5w20 and 5w30 http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/12...ighlander.html

It appears Toyota really switched to 0w20 in 2010-2011 to improve corporate gas mileage figures.

they responded over at bobs saying it should be no problem at all. i just wanted some opinions here. and thought maybe somebody may have already used it and could fill me in.

get this, i went on pennzoils website and the cold pour point of the 5w20 is -51 and -48 for the 0w20? and some other numbers lookded better on the 5w20 over the 0w20 too. so i dont think it will be any trouble for the motor to use it. i was more concerned about the variable valve timing and cold start more than anything. but it doesnt appear it will be a problem.

What is the cold pour point for Toyota 0w20? It is made by Mobil and is similar to their 0w20 but apparently a bit more robust and viscous.

i dont know i cant find it. but i do know my rx is quieter and seems more peppy on the pennzoil platinum 0w20 i have in now vs what ever the dealer was using.

I had 5w30 left over when I had my rx330; I simply exchanged it for 0w20.
A smile was all I needed for an exchange
