Dealer settings
I have a 2015 RX350. Can my Lexus dealer disable the function that opens my lift gate automatically ? In my owners manual, it tells me that it's a dealer only setting change. I have owned several RX's, and this is a new thing. Instead of being able to manually open the lift gate, now once you try to open it, it beeps and automatically opens. Since I got this car mid September I have wasted about 2 hours of my life waiting for the door to open. I went to my dealer yesterday, and they "fixed" it. Not exactly. They released that button in your glove compartment that disables the whole lift gate function so that it won't work with the key or the driver's side inside button. If that is the fix, why would it tell me that it's a "dealer only" change? Does anyone have knowledge of this? It's making me crazy.

Hmmm. That DOES work, but it makes a weird "dying chime" noise when I do it. Does yours do that? Since the owners manual says that the dealer has to change the setting, I figured they actually had a way to do that. Maybe the 22 year old tech doesn't know so I'm trying to see if someone knows... Until I find out if there is a way for them to do it, I'll use the double tap way. Thank you, txes

No dealer needed, with a compatible OBD2 reader you can disable it anytime with carista app, i have used this app to open my lift gate automatically with single touch, check screenshot below, disable rear hatch open assistance.....done.

The dealer can make that change (they did on our 2010), but my lovely wife prefers it to open automatically and it's "her" car. Like you, I prefer not to have to wait for it to open so I do the double tap and we both win. I like having the easy option. Ours doesn't make any weird noises, though. I can't imagine why yours would.

Yup, you can use Carista to change the configuration to your liking. All you need is a $10-ish Bluetooth device and the app (the customization functionality in it currently costs $19.99). You can change more than 50 settings on an RX. Check it out via the links in my signature and let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the info. I don't have an Android. Had one, hated it, have an iPhone 5. Am I sunk? Should I just tell my dealer that yes, they can set this for me? Or deal with it and double tap.

I might be wrong. Our 2011 RX hatch unlocks with one tap of the rubber touch pad and goes up electrically when held for one second. The dealer set that up for us. Did not touch the switch in the glove box. Ruby Red's in the shop 'til Friday. I will check the operation and get back. Ray iPhone 4s

Hey, sorry about the late reply, but I just wanted to tell you we're actually working on an iPhone version of the app right now. We should have a beta version available for testing within a month (maybe sooner). Just FYI.

I just "Double Tapped" the Lift Gate Button on my 2015 RX 350 AWD and it did not open electrically and allowed me to open manually. I did not check the owner's manual;, however, I bet this feature is not in there? I agree that sometimes I would rather open the "Lift Gate" manually rather than wait for the Electrical Open to do it.
