Default Suggestions for USB charger on 14 RX350

Just purchased 2014 RX350. I like the apps but they are draining my phone (Samsung S3) battery fast.

My 2011 RX350 had a USB cable in there and I bought a cheap microUsb adapter although it did not seem to charge my phone that well.

I see the 2014 RX350 has a USB port inside the console and not the cables I am used to. Is there a particular USB/cable/adapter you could recommend for fast charging?

Please help. Thanks.

How about using the standard cigarettle light charging port in the center console. It should put out more power than the USB port.

That could be an option.

I am also thinking about buying an external pack and just keeping that in the car.

We also have S3s and have a charger plugged into the cigarette lighter and that seems to work well. I have a 32GB thumb drive with music in the USB port.

I am starting to notice that whatever device I plug into the USB and/or cigarette lighter will take up space in the glove compartment.

I was hoping for something small or perhaps thin there. Not sure what to do at this point.

About as shallow as they get.

Thanks but this would still take up too much space inside the console as it would stick straight out. I am thinking of just using a small (1') USB cable and keep that connected to the phone.

While it may not charge as fast, I am hoping it would at least allow me to maintain the battery level while driving which for me is probably good enough.

Use the cigarette lighter. If you're phone is in use while driving, the USB port will not keep up.

The other option is to use Practical Meter (http://www.practicalmeter.com) to trick your USB charger into speeding up. But still, if you're draining the battery at the same time, you may still end up drawing more than you're pulling in.

Good info here:

This is interesting. Thanks.

I just tried a USB cable in the RX running Pandora the entire time. I drove for 15 minutes stopped and then another 15 minutes. The phone battery remained at 100%.

I may just stick with this for now unless I significant change.
