Add Bluetooth on the cheap
I mentioned in another thread I'd make this post. First, I apologize if this isn't the correct section of the forums, as I didn't find a more suitable section for the 2nd Gen (any older Lexus, for that matter).
Here's a list, with pictures, of what's needed. This can all be purchased for less than $25.
First, and most important, is the SoundBot SB360 Bluetooth 4.0 Car Kit. eBay $16.69
2) 3.5mm Female to 3.5mm Female Audio Adapter. eBay for $2.69
3) 3.5mm cassette - the kind everyone used years ago to add a portable CD player to cassette-equipped car radios...
Plug in the car charger, and plug in the SoundBot USB cable. Plug the 3.5mm jack from the cassette into the coupler on one side, and the 3.5mm jack from the SoundBot on the other. Mount the SoundBot - I mounted mine just below the volume button - using the tape affixed to the back of it. It's close enough to be usable for phone calls, and it's within perfect reach for fingertip use. Pair your phone's Bluetooth to the SoundBot. Set your phone's Bluetooth streaming volume to about the 3/4 mark. Turn on the stereo, push in the cassette adapter, and push play. Done.
Some notes: This works very well, considering the price. You'll have to turn up the stereo volume (or Bluetooth on your phone) for phone calls. Quickly turn it back down before ending the call, or you'll get blasted. When you start the RX, the Bluetooth connects extremely quick. Just push the top button on the SoundBot to start playing music. Overall, I don't usually get complaints from callers having trouble hearing me. The SoundBot does swivel on its base, so no need to be picky about placing it perfectly. If you get any complaints about people hearing you, simply pull the SoundBot of its magnetic base, and hold it closer to you.
Does it look the best? Not exactly. Does it do the job? Yes. How much did it cost? Under $25. How long did it take to install? A few minutes.
**Don't mind the mess that is the inside of my RX. This weather isn't favorable to cleaning vehicles...**
