Default Cheapest aftermarket bluetooth option that isn't a tape deck or FM adapter

Hey guys.

I've gone through 4 tape deck adapters and now the cost has gotten to the point where I should have just bought a more permanent solution such as that of unplugging the CD changer and installing something like a GROM.

Is there anything cheaper but similar to a GROM available? I don't really care about making phone calls or care about having an AUX port. I just want bluetooth for playing music from my phone.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi! As I recall, my GROM adapter was under $100, but I bought it a few years ago. I thought it was relatively inexpensive compared to anything else as good. I doubt you can find anything so good for less money.

Look at the "Aux-In" thread. That does require the phone jack. Once you have a tap in option then you can explore other options.

They are around 135-145 online and I'm trying to avoid paying that much. There are other companies I've seen that are cheaper but I guess they don't make the right cable adapter for the 2001 RX300.

Okay, I looked into that option and it seems that those aren't always very reliable from what some people say. I didn't even know that FM adapters existed.

So I should update my request to be along the lines of cheap but not a tape deck adapter or an FM adapter.

Thank you for the input.

Anyone have any comments on this model:
Amazon Amazon

Seems like it would work for the RX300 and it's only about $46.

Thanks in advance.

I use a wired FM adapter, which is reliable but noisy. My 2000 RX300 has a Nakamichi system though, which none of the aux in or even tape adapters work with. Otherwise I would happily spend the Grom money.

If you want REALLY good BT adapter with actually very decent hands free phone capability, and you have Aux and are OK with wires, KNIVO I shall recommend to anyone hands down. I have two of them, well, had, I sold one with a car. Have one in my Dosge RAM. Works perfect! And, as noisy as RAM is, hands free works fine.
Amazon Amazon
I installed Aux jack into RAM headunit, what was about $15 gizmo.

Grom is tough to beat even with the higher price. Sound quality is excellent.

I'm not sure I'm following you. Are you saying that the GROM won't work with the Nakamichi system? The GROM isn't an aux in nor a tape adapter. You disconnect the CD changer and plug in the GROM in place of it.

In regard to the reliability of an FM adapter, the noise is the main complaint I read about, which to me makes it unreliable for consistent sound.

The GROM won't work with the Nakamichi.

The tape adapter won't work with the Nakamichi (it keeps ejecting it).

Nothing works with the Nakamichi.

Can you tell me why? I have used several bluetooth adapters on other stereos and they all sound the same because they are all using the same bluetooth protocol. There should be nothing in the GROM that makes it sound different from any other bluetooth devices unless perhaps we're talking about a bad grounding wire-- or am I wrong? Please let me know.

The GROM has good reviews but I'm trying to avoid spending the extra $100 for a name when all I want is a bluetooth signal.

Ah man bummer! Sorry to hear that. At least you do have a solution that works for you though.
