Transmission Hesitates / Noise when Cold
Hello,
I just recently bought a 2004 RX330 w/ 120K miles on it. The dealer goodwilled a new power steering rack that was leaking (noticed at highway speeds right after I bought it). (This board was very helpful in identifying the problem and educated me on it b4 taking it in, so thanks!!!)
I noticed that recently, it being the coldest weather here since i bought the car a few weeks ago, the transmission hesitates a little going into 2nd and 3rd, while a slight rattle/screeching sound (sounds like metal on metal). After a few minutes, the problem completely goes away and shifts perfectly.
My last car was a little rice burner that I just turned on, and drive off regardless of the weather and never had an issue.
Does my transmission problem sound serious? Or do you think its that I just need to warm the car up for 5-10 minutes before taking off?

Did you purchase from a Lexus dealership? Did you register your VIN with Lexus?

Would be looking to see if the transmission fluid has been changed. While the RX330 is not known for transmission troubles like the RX300 was, any transmission that is not properly maintained or was abused could be looking at a big dollar repair.

I did register with Lexus, and the Lexus Dealership gave me the service records which I thoroughly inspected before buying. At 48K miles, its was taken in for "Trans Flush ~ Flushed Trans Fluid". Also, at 101K miles it was taken in for "Preferred Pkg 7: transmission and differential service ~ tech performed trans service and front and rear diff service".
The previous owner never missed a service appointment, and took great care of the car, at least from what I can gather.
I did purchase a 2 year 24K mile extended power train plus warranty, so hopefully if it is a bigger problem with the trans then it will be covered under that....
Thanks for everyone's reply,
JT
