2004 RX330 Brake & Caliper issue
Hello,
I purchased my CPO 2004 RX330 11/2009 @52,000 miles with "new brakes". In February 2011 took in for service as the steering wheel was vibrating, told I needed front rotors turned.(I had only driven 18,000 miles since I purchased the car.) Last week on the expressway same vibration and a burning smell, had it towed to the dealership. Now I'm told the Rt front caliper went (under warranty) but the damage done to the rotors are my responsibility $650. (oh, they must replace the left side now too.)
Does anyone think this seems a little odd?
Thank you for your suggestions

I thought "new brakes" mean brand new, not resurfaced. I am picking up the car today and will talk to the service mgr.
The calipers are a warranted part, but any damage incurred to a non-warranted part (the rotors) are my responsibility. Kind of a catch 22 type warranty at best.

Pads and rotors are considered "consumables" and aren't usually not covered but if your exploding caliper damaged the rotor then it should certainly be covered. Under good will if nothing else.

$650 for Rotors is way too much to ask, especially when they already have the caliper off the one side to replace it. Find out what they are charging per rotor (shouldn't be more then $100 each)

You need to find a good local independent shop for non-warranty service. Lexus dealer at least doubles the cost of service and repairs. I would fight them over the rotor, as it was the fault of the warrantied part that caused the failure, not normal wear.

Does not add up right.
Go find another Lexus dealer.
I hate it when dealers go bad.
