RX 350 Air Filter bolts
Hi folks,
New to an RX350. And new to the forums. Read a ton but didnt find the answer to the following.
Trying to change air filter.
Turning bolts on air filter case doesn't seem to do anything. I've read that they could be broken ?? striped ?
1) Does that mean I can pry the case open unhindered if they are broken.
Some talk of taking the bolts right out. I have a flange on top of the bolt and it will not come out from the top.
2)Does the nut on the bottom physically come out or does it stay in the molded piece ?
If I disconnect and remove the battery, is there anything I have to do after reconnecting or is it seamless ?
Dont know how these bolts work and don't want to break anything.
Can anyone help.
Thank you SOOOOOOOO Much !

i am pretty sure that your problem is that the nut is turning in the plastic case.
one solution pending room, is to get some vise grips and pinch the plastic tight against the nut in hopes it will stay put.
you may need to remove things like the battery to gain access, but you have no other choice, the airfilter needs to be accessible.
whatever you do, be gentle, the plastic case can break easily and they are not cheap to replace.

If the bolt is exposed {the side you want the nut to come off from), you can use the two nut lock mechanism to make a head on the bolt.
Process:
Take two nut and thread them on the bolt. Take two wrenches to tighten the two nuts AGAINST each other while leaving room for the free spinning nut (<- the one that you want to remove). The two extra nuts will lock with each other and also bind with the bolt. Now hold the bolt with the two extra nuts and unthread the desired nut. Use two wrenches to unlock the two nuts, spin out all three nuts.
Note: Depending on the direction (tighten/loosen), when you hold the two nut set up, you have to choose which one to hold ... if you chose the wrong one the lock would be undone and you will have to use two wrenches to lock them again. ... then try holding the other nut.
The text above is more complicated than the actual process, but it would prevent possible damage to the plastic.
