Default Side mirror swap

Hi,

One of my side mirrors heating element is gone, it appears brownish on the glass at the moment.

My question is, how easy is it just to replace the glass mirror, not the whole housing?

I read something online saying that it is a stick on (double sided tape or something), is this true?

Thanks in advance.

The mirror alone is almost as expensive as replacing it the house unit. I purchased the housing unit on ebay and had my body shop install it for me.

If you just want to replace the glass mirror itself, put your fingers under the bottom of the mirror and pull outward and upward, applying equal pressure across the bottom of the mirror while you're pulling. Use gentle steady pressure.

Hi,

Thanks for the information. So is it held by clips? Don't want to break anything.

What about the wires for the heating element? is it connected to the glass?

Thanks

I am not sure whether you can just change the glass mirror. But it is not terribly difficult to replace the whole mirror. You can buy it from eBay at about $150. Just need to pay sttention to the description. MOst of them has heating element but only few of them has the dimming function if you care about that.

I had left mirror broken from inside and I had to get a new mirror. The dealer and indepedent shop all say $700 plus tax. I ended up buying the mirrow at eBay and installed it myself. Saved $500.

I'm in a similar spot. Can you help share where you found the instructions to replace the whole mirror? Thanks.

Follow this writing to get the door panel off. You will see the screws holding the mirror as well as the connectors for connecting the mirrow with the master switch. From there you should be able to take the existing mirror off and install the new mirrow.

well... this is a no brainer really. the glass is held on the backer with a weak adhesive tape or on some , a glob of mirror adhesive. pry the glass as suggested above ... if it breaks it breaks... . if it DOESN'T break , take it to your local glass shop and he'll make you one for about 9 bucks... then you use double sided foam tape to reinstall it. it it does break trace a template from the backer or better bring the backer to the glass guy and 9 bucks later you are home.

ive never done one on the lex but ive done maybe 200 on every nissan and toyota made.
