Radio wont turn off once key has been switched off or removed
Hey Everyone,
I have just recently bought a 1999 RX300. Its in great condition and I am very happy with it. But it has one problem that I know of at the moment.
I have done a search but to but came to no answers.
As I understand it the radio is suppose to turn off once the key has been switched off. But it continues to stay on. I can turn it off by pressing the button but the screen and clock still display. Any ideas about whats happening?
Thank you in advance.
Ben

Welcome to Club Lexus:
You are right that normally the radio stays on, when the key is in ACC or RUN position.
Maybe the previous owner messed with the wiring?

I should have mentioned it doesn't do it all the time. But when it does I have to remove the battery terminal to turn it off. Then it stays off. Maybe a faulty relay powering the Head Unit?

I'll check it tomorrow once I pull the car apart. I did think that too. But it always turns on normally....... Which makes me think that maybe what ever relay or switch inside the radio decides that ACC power is on or off might be broken?

You need a road map before tearing the console apart. Get hold of the circuit diagram and see which really or which ecu controls it.

So I got more into it today. And have worked out that all of the accessories run when the key is out of the car. Power mirrors, radio, display screen, cigarette lighter and the lights for shift position. So not sure where to look. Does power from the key run them directly once switched on or is there a separate relay?
Thank you for your help.

So I played with the car today. Turns out it has some sort of aftermarket alarm and kill switch looked up. I pulled the drivers side dash apart and discovered it all. Had a play with it and now it works fine, the radio and all the accessories turn off once the key is pulled out. So one day I'll have a better look at it and probably pull it all out.... I don't care to have a kill switch and I don't have the remote for the aftermarket alarm.
Thank you for all of the help and in site.
