Help! Revs to Red Line on Start Up!
My 1998 RX300 never gave me a minute of trouble until today. I turned the key & it revved immediately, it would have gone into the red line if I hadn't shut it off.
I tried several times, same result, tho once it just died. Then it did the over rev again.
What's wrong with it? This came on with no warning. I need my car! The worst part is, we're making a cross country move next month.
Btw, it's got 130K on it, which is nothing for a SoCal car.
Help!

Hello and welcome to Club Lexus! You may want to check the position of the floor mat, as it may be holding the accelerator pedal down.
If the pedal is not being hindered by the mat, more than likely you have a cable issue between the pedal and the throttle body.
Is the pedal returning when you step on it? With the engine off, of course!!
If not, you'll need to check under the hood.
Let us know what you find with the pedal, and we'll go from there
