Exclamation Power Steering flush question

I wanna do power steering flush for my 2001 RX300.

How many quarts should I use? (Mobil 1 ATF)

Thanks.

The DIY section tells how to do this; it's more of a siphon-out-and-refill than a flush, I suppose. I did it twice and used about a quart of fluid total.

I used 1 qt of mobil 1 atf to flush my power steering system. I siphoned out the reservoir and filled with fresh fluid then disconnected the return line and turned the steering wheel back and forth while capturing the return oil in a waste bucket. Keep the reservoir full while doing this until you get clean oil coming out of the return line.

Thanks for response. I will look at the DIY section.

My PSF is leaking too, just a little. I guess it is normal for old cars. An auto shop asked me to replace rack assembly, pump, reservoir and a lot of stuff, which cost a lot of money, so I would like to try "Trans-X Slip-Stop Leak-Fix" first. Any suggestion?

Thanks a lot.

I would not jump headlong into replacing the fluid, The fresh fluid will likely increase the leak. If you get 100% fresh fluid the leak will increase,

Go to a competent mechanic and get better diagnosis done. It very well could be all things as you listed or it can be a much shorter list.

Once you get the repairs done, the go ahead and replace the fluid.

Additives is a subject I would leave to other members . Personally I am against them and have no experience in that area.

Thank you, Salim.

I also went to the dealer about a week ago to do transmission flush. I got a report for car check, showing "oil leak" needs "future attention". I did keep eyes on the reservoir every week, but I could not really see fluid level change.

I thought the fresh fluid would help the seal working better. I could be wrong. Now I am thinking to just replace PSF in the reservoir. I guess after drain and fill several times, it would be all fresh.

About "Trans-X", I saw discussion in the Subaru forum, which shows very positive comments.

If there is no leak, then by all means go ahead and replace. If doubtful then go slow and easy.
