Default Power steering and power steering fluid question

Hello you all,
I have noticed that the last owner of my car has put in regular power steering fluid, NOT the dexron.........

will this hurt the power steering system?
and how do i flush it out so i can put dexron atf in it?\

and if i turn the steering all the way to the right or left, the power steering make s noise, but not that LOUD of a noise. is this normal or is my pump going bad? or wrong steering fluid causes this?

thanks in advance you all.
JP

I purged mine with the drain and refill the reservoir method. Took about two quarts of Dexron, and eight to ten drain and refills. Then, there is always fluid in the system.

I siphoned out the fluid with a small tube, rather than risk snapping off the nipple from the plastic reservoir by removing the input or output hose.

this is normal, your pump is putting max pressure on the steering rack trying to turn the wheels farther than they can turn. dont turn the wheel and force it more than you have to otherwise you can pop a hose or hurt the pump eventually.
