Default New Brake and Throttle Rubber Pads Replacement

Anybody done this? I have the parts, genuine Lexus. Original rubber was getting hard and provided little friction. I am looking for tips on removing the old ones, and installing the new. I know from a parts diagram of the accelerator pedal that there is a pin or screw that holds it on. Have not done a close inspection yet. The brake pad looks like it just slips over the metal of the actual pedal, but don't know good procedure for getting it off, and then the new one on.

I did the brake and accelerator pedal on my 2002 Highlander V6 with the F-Sport brake and accelerator pedals. The rubber OE pedal for the brake is super easy to get on unlike the stiff aluminum F-Sport one, that'll take about 30 seconds, the accl pedal is a little more involved. Should be almost identical on the RX300, you need to disconnect the cable that goes into the throttle, I think I used a trim tool to pop it out. Once the pedal was out, some penetrating oil down the pin made it pop out in a few strikes with a punch. I had good luck putting the accl assy in a vise.

If you need to lube the rubber parts, just use liquid soap sparingly.

Thanks for the info and the link. I think I'm just going to end up replacing the brake pedal rubber, and leave the accelerator pedal alone.

My plan was to soak the new brake pedal rubber in hot water, had not thought about liquid soap as well. Good advice, thanks.

If you have some silicone spray or petroleum jelly that’ll help tons too. I had to combine that with hot water to get those darn stubborn F-Sport brake pedals on.

Just an update on replacing the brake pedal rubber pad. When I went to install the new pad, I discovered that the old pad was COMPLETELY OFF the left side of the pedal. No idea how this happened, except my mother-in-law, from whom I got the car in 2009, had pedal extensions put on, which I removed when I got the car. So maybe I had been driving around for the last 13 years with this condition. Anyway, getting the pad to come off all the way was a snap...just grip the left side and pull. Getting the new one on was slightly more of a challenge...the hot water soak really did not do much, so I made a 70/30 solution of water and dish detergent, use a Qtip to paint the inside groove of the rubber and the entire face where it contacts the metal pad, slid it on the top of the pedal first, then worked it around each of the sides with a small tack remover, kind of like a trim tool, and then finally the bottom, ending in a firm attachment. The thing that really caught my eye was the worn condition of the old rubber pad. The rubber was hard and had lost its "stickyness", and the right side of the old pad was worn down at least 1/16th inch, and that edge remaining was as slick as glass...no friction quality at all. I mean, how often does anyone get down there to inspect the brake pedal rubber? Anyway, I would recommend that any of you with the original pedal do so, and frankly just replace the pad. The pedal feels completely different now, much more secure. The part number is 47121-07010, and was $19.15 from my local Lexus dealer. Happy Braking !
