Rear valve cover.
It appears that replacing the rear valve cover on my 99 RX300 with a 3rd gen model is the fix for high oil consumption. I have not had any luck finding one. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Since you have 99 you may need to replumb the PCV.

Before zeroing on to replacing the valve cover, why dont you confirm the problem by adding a catch-can.

I thought about that but when I removed the intake to replace the knock sensor it was full oil. Oil was actually dripping out of my he upper intake. The PCV valve hose also had an unusual amount of oil in it. This with the numerous post on the forum it seems like a reasonable assumption that the valve cover is the culprit.

Check ebay. You want the one used on the RX330 with 4 lobes across the top baffle. The wrong one has only two lobes. $75 used

I agree with Drcoffee ebay is the best option. The 3rd Gen cover I swapped onto my kid's 2000 RX was from a 2006 Toyota Sienna 3.3L.
I am amongst the firm believers on this site that the cover swap is the fix. My son has been driving the RX daily since Sept and there has not been any signs of further oil consumption. When my daughter was driving it the year before, on same city route to/from high school, I was constantly topping it off. "Fortunately" the need to replace the damn knock sensors gave me the opportunity to change this rear cover; along with spark plugs, t-stat, clean the vvt filters. Right now at 199K miles, this engine is running like it is brand new. I just hoping that the prior oil consumption doesn't result in future cat issues for the time he continues to drive it. Probably should dump a bottle of Cataclean in the tank for some preventative measures, even though I think it is just snake oil. Best of Luck, I do not think you will regret changing over to a 3rd Gen cover.

FWIW, Ebay is where I got mine when I did the cover 3 years ago. Part was readily available and the price wasn't too bad. I was able to reuse the same hose on the new PCV valve, it just had to be trimmed slightly...
Here's the thread discussing what I did.
