RC-F front parking sensors
I took delivery of a new silver/red RC-F a few weeks ago and love it so far. Only problem: The front parking sensors do not detect a car or wall or building as I approach it. In fact, the sensors only respond if an object is placed 2"-3" in front of them. Dealer says my sensors are working as designed as the design of the RC-F doesn't allow a sensor to be placed in the middle of the front end. I'm having trouble believing that a $75,000 car with front parking sensors can't sense objects like cars/buildings/walls. Comments?

1. Carista app allows you to toggle some of the settings. (Unfortunately, not much for the front, but rear can be modified a good amount)
2. In the manual there are instructions on how to set the sensitivity settings using the navigation system.

MisterEun,
Thanks for your reply.
My RC-F is a 2017.
The manual does indeed show how to adjust sensitivity of both the front and back sensors. Unfortunately, the display on my car only allows adjustment to the rear sensors, not the fronts. Strange.

I have to get pretty close to stuff before my front sensors pick anything up. It's closer than I would like. But it's a lot farther than 3". I'll have to test and see exactly how far just so I know. I'm pretty sure it was about 12"-15" from my garage wall before they picked it up a few months back when I tried testing them out because I thought they didn't work... That was at an angle, not straight on, as I was turning into my garage. I was attempting to simulate a parked car when I am turning into a parking spot.
I looked into the Carista app. But I haven't felt the need to pay to extend the range on my sensors. From what I read the free version doesn't do anything for the sensors, only the paid version.
Correction.. I believe you have to buy a OBDII adapter... In any case, I don't need the sensor range extended bad enough to pay for it.

Davew77,
Thanks for your post. I'd be thrilled if my sensor warnings started to sound at 12". I received a call today from the dealer service advisor suggesting I call Lexus company and explain my problem. I did so and was treated well by the person who handled my call. He said he'd research my problem and call me back next week. In the meantime, I'm parking well short of obstructions.

I know this is an old post but I was wondering if the OP ever figured out if the sensors were working normally or not. I noticed my '15 RCF also only detects front objects when only a few inches away versus the rear which picks up objects a few feet away.

Same problem with front sensors. Front sensors don't do anything until about 10 inches from the wall. Display sensitivity adjustment to max did not help at all. My wife's RX350, with front sensors, are so more sensitive, and are actually useful. My RCF sensors are of little use for parking. They just inform me when I'm about to hit something, but are of no help for parking the car.

Its just the way the car is made. The RCF has only 2 sensors on the front bumper rather than the usual 4 lexus puts on all the other cars. It drives me crazy cause I have a GS F sport that I drive during the week. I always have to be cautious cause the sensors on the RCF are basically useless up front. Iv'e messed with the settings having lexus program them to near and far but it has absolutely no difference. They should have just either had all four or none at all up front IMO. It's like having push button start but having to put the key in. Mind as well not even have it. I imagine there are many drivers who hit something depending on their front sensors to detect an object and crack their radar cruise control or spindle grill

Mine go haywire when it's cold out, like winter temperature cold. The front warning indicator keeps popping up, this happens whenever the car has come to a stop. I just turn off the parking assist when it does it. It doesn't do it during the spring/summer months though. I'm just leaving it that way since I don't want the dealer to mess with removing the bumper cover.
