R154 Trans Question!
New to Club Lexus. Anyways, I recently picked up a 1993 SC300 original 5 speed W58. I want to swap a R154 into it when I go turbo. Just wondering if the R154 is a direct fit or if I have to use a different bell housing and or anything else? (driveline, trans mount, ect.) Any help would be MUCH appreciated!! Thank you.

HSGCory, you can get a direct fit R154 if you get the correct version. Perfect fit will be with an R154 that has come out of a (JDM model year) 1991-1993 Soarer. This will have not just the bellhousing, VSS sensor, correct tailshaft mounting holes for your W58 OEM rubber mount (same on the Soarer R154) and most importantly the early style extension housing which will allow you to bolt the shifter mechanism in exactly the same way as with your factory W58.
For reference, 1991-1993 JDM Soarer R154 transmissions bolt directly into 1992-1994 USDM SC300's which originally came with W58's with no modification. The shifter extension placement (for the car) is exactly the same in the car as is the early 1992-1994 SC300 W58's shifter extension placement (for the car).
Now if you use an MK3 R154 you can modify the gearbox with the 1JZ bellhousing, Marlin Crawler VSS sensor adapter, custom transmission crossmember solution (MK3 R154 mount + CX Racing crossmember or DM crossmember or modified 82-85 Celica W58 mount) and either a Soarer R154 extension housing and internal arm (both totally discontinued worldwide now, so used only) or a modified/welded/extended version of the MK3 shift housing and internal shift arm.
Currently the OEM JZX100 shifter extension housing and shifter arm are still available but they are not going to be an exact fit into your 1993 SC300 M/T the way your stock 1992-1994 W58 or a 1991-1993 R154 will be.

Depedning on style of r154...
There is 2 different soarer r154.........non tripod and tripod..
For non tripod it will bolt right up.....but you will need 1jz flywheel, slave, and clutch, and MK3 driveshaft
Tripod will require a little bit more work.....V160 6 speed tunnel and same parts as mentioned above....
Check out my build thread and it should help you out...start on post 508......https://www.clublexus.com/forums/bui...-build-34.html
