Curious about a labor quote to replace A/C Compressor
Title pretty much says it all. The car is a '97 SC300 with traction control. I called my local mechanic today to see if he could give me a labor quote to replace my A/C compressor, drier, etc. He said the labor alone would probably be around $600. I got all the parts I needed re-manufactured for $200 shipped. Does this sound right to you mechanics out there?
Also, any idea what the labor would be (on average) to replace the timing belt/water pump and all that goes with that? Do you guys think it would be cheaper to go ahead and do the timing belt/water pump service while he's in there doing the compressor, or are those two completely different jobs?
Any comments are appreciated.
(Oh, I should also mention I've already collected all new OEM parts for the timing belt service, too, so that cost is not a factor.)

I hear you guys on the DIY - if I thought I could do it without screwing something up and I had the right tools, I'd probably try. I'm in law school, though, and it's my daily driver which I couldn't do without. The other thing is there are no specialty shops around here at all. I live in a small, rural town where the nearest decent sized city is an hour and a half away. All the mechanics here are mainly domestic only, but this guy I always use is real good with Toyota's. I guess I'm just going to have to call around and get some other quotes.
Thanks for your responses.
