Default Preventive Maintenance (timing belt)

My ride has 93k on the odo...Going to take it in next month to have the timing belt replaced.

1. How much should I expect to pay?
2. Any other 'potentially very bad' if goes out parts, I should replace?

Thanks

Remeber to tell them to replace the water pump also. Timing belt, cam seals, two idlers. Dealer will charge you ~$1000
local garage ~$700. Its about 4-5 hrs labor charge.

As long as you're in there with the covers off, if you didn't get the distributor caps and rotors changed at 60K, do 'em then. Cheap parts, easy replacement, worth the $40-50 in parts! Replace the serpentine as well, again, if it hasn't been done. Have them take a peek at the coolant hoses too. Make sure they are still in good shape.

Not a cheap belt to replace, based on my work on the car. At my favorite local independent shop, close to $550 to do it.

Just to be clear it doesn't matter if your timing belt goes out ... they're non-intereference engines and it won't hurt a thing. Your car will just stop running until you replace it.

or you could do it yourself. buy the timing belt from Lexus. get the factory service manual and DIY. you'll save a lot of money and learn to replace the TB.

?? okay I am mis-informed...I thought if the timing belt went out it was big trouble...

"they're non-intereference engines and it won't hurt a thing"

I would triple-check this with someone who owns one, but according to these threads the 1UZ-FE is non-interference:

You could even call your Lexus dealer to ask.

Plugs
Wires
Timing Belt
Water Pump (presuming)
power steering fluid
Coil?

Joe,

Is $550 included parts?
I paid $300 cash labor to a Toyota Certified Mechanic and two of his friends to do the job in the dealer shop (it's a side job, after work hr).
