metal whistling sound?
I was driving downtown and they had concrete barriers up around each side of a road they are redoing. I was able to get nice feedback on my exhaust so i stomped on the pedal. Immediately the car goes up to around 4500 rpm and over the sound of the engine i can hear a faint whistling sound (like how a defective dog whistle sounds, like air going through a metal tube but softly whistling). Car goes back down to ~2k rpm and sound is gone. I mash the pedal up to 4500+ rpm and i hear the sound again.
I don't think it's serious but then again I don't know much about the specifics of the 1UZFE. maybe a valve? any ideas?

hate to revive something this old, but i have the same problem.
was it your intake being loose or something?
i have an aftermarket filter on there and when i changed it i broke a part of that clip the maf uses to keep itself up, so sometimes the intake hits the bottom tray area loosening itself up. i think i need a bracket.. lol
it makes a woooooooooo kinda whistle at WOT above 4k
does it in neutral too but not as noticeable

ok, i thightened up all my intake parts and it is still there.
my intake is a cone filter on the stock tubing, im thinking maybe the resonator thing on the stock tube has something to do with the whistle. it doesnt seem to affect performance, and i dont think its an engine sound.
im really lost on this one. might take it in the shop

update, according to someone on the na-t website, 2jz-ge engines do something with the iacv valve at wide open throttle (wot) when you get to 4500rpms and 6100rpms (redline).
it has to do with the helmholtz (sp?) law of intake runner length or something.
the way i understood it it opens up the valve to increase the effective length of your intake. my car makes the whistle at exactly 4500 rpms!! and only when WOT, so this makes sense. i already knew my iacv valve wasnt operating at 100% so now i am positive it needs servicing/cleaning.
i will update after i fix the problem for sure
