Default Ignition problems....need some help !

My key turns freely in the ignition but it's not engaging. The ignition is physically loose. I've never seen this problem. My mechanic says he's going to troubleshoot when he gets the chance . Has anyone had this problem ?

And yes I searched .

Found the source of my problem. I'm 100% sure the guy who towed the car tried force the ignition to turn over and broke my starter. I can't prove it though. I recently had a new key cut I tested it in all locks and the ignition. It took 45 mins to tow my car 2 block. I knew something was wrong then but I was heading to work.

Anyways I went to the local Lexus dealership this weekend to pick up another ignition starter they wanted $242. I declined and bought one online $100 rockauto.com . Hopefully friday/saturday I'll be rolling again .

p.s. always look over your car before/after being towed if possible.

The part finally came in today. I'm up and running. Now I need to go pick it up and fix all the other annoyances (window regulator) .
