3.0 liters of displacement versus 2.5..obvious answer which motor will make more torque at any psi.
The 1jz has a shorter stroke so it has capability to rev faster, than the 2jz.
That's all, I believe it has on the 2jz, and it's slightly cheaper to swap in.
Most people searching for big power go for the 2jz because as you install bigger and bigger turbos, they become harder to spool, even for the 3.0 motor. It would be even harder for the 2.5 to spool an equal size turbo.

I was just looking at someones dyno sheet with an all stock aristo 2j at 15psi he made 324hp and 328tq. My buddy has a 1j in his cressida and at 12psi all stock he made 301hp and 303tq.

Yo, I ran a dude in a "worked" white '05/06 645i on the pike the other day...only b/c he had this WTF look on his face. I gave him the same look back (mostly b/c of those AWFUL white 22" or 24" wheels). I switched into clear lanes to let him line up...apparently he was a noob cause he took off right away...thought he was leavin me behind (as he looked in the rearview) until i pulled up next to him next shakin my index finger SO we ran about 3 more times b4 he got the picture and drove off with the look on his face.
The "L" on the back is so u see what place you're comin in, LOSER. Isn't a 645 like a mortgage payment too!!?!!!?!!
