Default Have the option to swap a obd2 2jgte in a 92 sc

Swap a 98 vvt-i 2jz-gte into a obd1 92 sc.
Has anyone done this and should I go for it? The motor is cheap and good from a friend. I was gonna do a 1j but then this offer came along and I can even get it Legalized by the REF (California). Can't do that with a 1j.

So what do you think?

a jdm vg30dett is not the same as a us vg30dett in the eyes of uncle sam.
i would assume the same for supra 2jz-gte

it would look slightly less suspicious than a 1jz i suppose

Default I'm confused as well....

Maybe the VVTi thing is what the confusion is about, but I thought that was offered in a 98.

Uncle Sam allows the Japanese motors in place of the U.S. versions.

is there any way to know if this is from an aristo or a supra just by looking at it?

Only in japan did the 2jzgte vvti appear in the supra. All jdm motors lack egr systems which will have to be added to get bared by California among other things.

You can always place an OBD2 motor in an OBD1 car. You CAN'T put an OBD1 motor in an OBD2 car.

You may be okay. The VVTi 2JZ is OBD2, and there's no need for EGR because it uses the VVTi for that function. I've wired up a few of these so if you need help with that end of it, just let me know. drtweak@phoenixtuning.com or http://www.phoenixtuning.com

Had to bring this back from the Dead....

wouldnt it be possible to swap an obd1 na 2jz in a 97 obd2 SC300 if you swap on the obd2 intake manifold on the obd1 motor?

I have done it on Nissans before...would like to know if the same logic would apply on lexus/toyota cars

You can swap anything you want as long as all the parts transfer. What the car came with doesnt matter. If you swap in an obd1 engine use an obd1 harness and use an obd1 ecu, it will be obd1. its just illegal to go from obd2 to obd1 since its a downgrade of the fuel emissions crap. Kinda like its illegal to use a carb on a car that came with fuel injectors.
