Default Very Vocal past 4000 rpms

I just recently purchased a 92 SC300 with 99K on it. Car drives great but anytime you pass 4000 RPMS the motor gets very vocal. Now I know some of the SC300s have VVT-i, but I don't think the very early years did, but I could be wrong.

Any insight? This could just be my inexperience with an inline 6 cyl too.

Well, your '92 doesn't have VVT-i, unless someone before you dropped in a newer motor. Outside of that, I can't help you. I own a 1UZ, so I'm much more familiar with the sound of the V-8 as opposed to the I-6

Yes, owned a 93 SC300. No VVTi there, just the inline-6 working hard. I had the 5-Speed, where it only sounded loud when pushed to the floor (high revs). Other than that, it was a perfect lady around town.

Normal. Dont worry.

Mine does get loud around that. Its mroe for me because I have removed my resonators so I can hear it inside the car real easily.

Thanks for the response guys. Hopefully I won't be concerned with the sound when it is muffled by the sweet sound of a BL kit spooling up.

Ignition timing could change at any point, regardless of VVT-i.
