The engine in my 1995 SC300 is super loud and 'grunty' (?). The VVT-i motor in the 03' IS300 that I had was super super quiet. The SC sounds like it's working too hard after 3K RPM. Any ideas?
No, the sound I'm referring to is from the front end of the car, maybe it's a leak on the manifold. It reminds me of the old 280z engines, they were really loud.
I don't know, might be isolated to your vehicle. I had a 93 which was soooo quite (until I added the BFI) and was comparable to the 00 I drove the other day.
yah my engine has a real aggressive sound to it. I can hear it over my exhaust when i romp on it, after about 3-4k all i hear is the engine screaming. I like it
u have to agree, it is a loud motor. im sure it has a little to do with insulation, but even with the hood up, the IS is a lot quieter than the SC. i actually like the sound. my SC with the stock exhaust actually has a bit of a growl to it.

mine is like that too... its all engine-noise after 4k, and my exhaust is LOUD. it isnt even an intake noise, its just the engine working. puzzling
