Question Both power mirrors out at same time?

Hello, My 1995 SC 400 just had both power mirrors die. I doubt itis the actuators because they both stopped working at the same time. In addition it is not the fuse. Since the vehicle is out of warranty and lexus labor costs are steep any suggestions where to start looking for the problem? Anybody else have a similar problem and if so how was it resolved?

Thanks
in advance

Dan

Very common problem. Mirror ECU is bad. Mounts under dash just above driver's left foot. Call dealership for a price. Install is a bit of a pain.

Pretty lengthy procedure. One of those things I'd have to show you.

devildog , thanks for the heads up. This should prevent my dealer from padding the repair with BS.

Devildog,

The mirror ECU is above the right knee, not the left foot. Am I correct?

The mirrors work now, even with memory setting.

Yes it is PITA to change that. There are two screws that hold the ECU. How did you take the top screw out?

I had to take the vent actuator out in order to get to that screw. The vent actuator is the thing that holt the ECU in place.

The radio stop working after I replace the mirror ECU. Have you ran in this problem before.

I usually cut the upper bracket off of the mirror ecu with a pair of tin snipes. I haven't had the problem of the radio not working. Check your fuses first. The two at the engine compartment.

I checked all the fuses and all are OK. Went under the dash and took the ECU out again to see if I got some wires stuck in there. Took the radio out to see if anything wrong. Then I didn't touch anything related to the radio while chnaging the ECU so I put it back.
What I don't understand is that everything else works, the A/C control, the memory seats, tilt wheel... except the radio. If I short any wires, something else shouldn't works also.

Does the radio display light up, screen works but no sound? Or is the radio completely dead?

Right after I replaced the ECU, the radio, tape player, CD changers didn't work. I thought that I burnt a fuse, check all fuses no problem. Then the radio start playing one station, many frequencies come in that station. I can't change to other stations nor turn the radio off. I can't change from AM to FM or Tape or CD. After playing with all the fuses and checked the ECU once more I tried the tape player. It didn't play at first, then after a while the tape player can play but will not turn off or switch to CD or FM. Only can eject the tape when the engine is off.
All lights are on at night. All A/C function work. Only the receiver is the problem.

If the receiver is not the problem, then I must of short some wires when I replaced the ECU. Will have to check again this weekend
