Default Help me choose an oil

My car has ~132k on it and I need to change the oil soon, got about another ~130 miles before it's time. So Im taking opinions on what you guy's think some good choices may be. Im thinking though with the higher milage, it's not a good time to switch to a synthetic and to just stay with a dino oil. What about high milage oils, any input on these?

What's the oil consumption? Do you have an leakage/seepage of oil? If the answer is none to both, I'd stick with what you've been doing (presumably a high quality dino).

Agree on sticking with what you're using... If you have not been using the high mileage oil, don't switch to it.

I have had good luck with Castrol GTX

My favorite dino is Exxon Superflo 5w20. Other good dino oils are Castrol GTX, Valvoline, Mobil Clean 5000 & 7500. How long do you plan to keep the car and what are your driving habits? If you change the oil at 5000 or less miles, any dino will do. You might also want to do 2 cycles of Auto-RX to clean the engine.

I have noticed some minor leakage over the past few months; I can see a few spots where I normally park my car. I think that the oil consumption is pretty normal, even with the minor leakage, as I dont ever have to add an before oil changes. And I do check to make sure it's within normal range because of the leak. The car is my DD/"beater" so I plan on keeping it a while. I drive mostly to and from work and school, less than 12k per year on it.

the high milage oil has more detergents in it to help clean out the carbon build up. my car has 142,000 miles and, lately i used the high milage 10W-30 mobil 1 and now i'm using regular mobil 1 5W-30. fortunately the engine doesn't consume oil. i'm sure the previous owner of my car used regular non-synthetic oil. i'd use a synthetic.

If the leak is from seals, try Auto-RX, basically it is an natural ester based cleaner to remove buildup and restore seals' condition. After the treatment, you can use synthetic or dino. My choice is Mobil 1 5w-20 or 0w-20.

Switch to Mobil1 10w30, since you only drive 12K per year you will only need to change it every year. If you want to ask this same question on www.bobistheoilguy.com they have all of the oil guru's.

Is there anymore info on this Auto-RX? Where to get it, how it works or anything online I can read?

Max, Ive been to that site before when researching oil for my g/f's G35, I was just on here trying to get an idea of what other SC people are using. Hard to get responses from SC people though when the post would have been moved from that forum into this one. I did check there for oil analysis for the SC but didn't find anything so that's why i posted here.

A lot of them use the autorx on the bobistheoilman site. I'm sure they can give you a detailed plan of action.
