Default 2010 LS 460 Ride quality

I just bought a 2010 LS460 with 15,000 miles on it. Everything checked out ok on the car when I did my research on it. Bought from a private owner whose dad passed away. It was his car. I just sold my 2004 LS430 with 222,000 miles on it. This was a wonderful car that i could have driven for another 100k, but I got a great deal on this car. Now my question. Does anyone else who owns this car think the ride is not what it should be? It does not ride as well as my 2004. There seems to be a slight vibration when on a smooth highway. I had someone else tell me his dad owned the same car and said the same thing. Lexus told him that's just the way the car is. I find that hard to believe. I just put new tires on it. and although it helped, the ride is still not perfectly smooth on a freshly paved road. Very disappointing. Any thoughts?

My dealer told me that the LS 460 has a tighter suspension than the LS 430 so that may be part of what you are feeling. Other than that, could it be tires out of balance? If so, take it to a tire shop that does road force balancing. My local Lexus dealer does that and I had it done on my 2011 as part of tire rotation and it made the ride much smoother.

i don't think there is a smoother riding car than the LS430... i believe the Rolls comes in first. my car is vault quiet and smooth as fish grease on a freshly paved road. i prefer some road feel anyway.

My old 98 LS400 was a much better ride than my 460. I actually bought my 460 because I loved the ride of the 400. Was very disappointed. But the inside, toys and power made up for the ride difference.

What brand of tires are you running? What is the air pressure? I was running like 43 when I left the dealer on new tires which is WAAAY too high. I'm at 35 cold now and I think I might be good, but I may go down to 33. I'm on 18's. If you have Bridgestone's, that is most likely why the ride is bad. I have them and they are the worst tires on earth.

Is the issue more vibration on the highway or bump isolation?

If its vibration on the highway something is out of balance. Is yours an AWD? I have heard of vibration issues with the AWD model...

I also have a 2010 LS460, and am also a bit disappointed in the ride quality. Changed the tires to Bridgestone Serenity Plus, inflated to 33 PSI cold, and that helped a bit.

The low-speed ride is pretty decent, actually. Where I am dissatisfied is at highway speeds, where the LS460 rides no better than our family Sienna or the Camry we used to have, especially over the concrete expansion joints we have in Southern California. I test-drove a LS430 once, and that had a much better ride.

I think there are two basic reasons for this: 1) The 18" wheels allow for less rubber to cushion shocks, and 2) Lexus listened too much to the car magazine complaints about the poor handling of the previous LS generations. Seriously, if I wanted a better handling car I would have bought an IS-F instead. the LS will never be a sports car, so why bother trying and just give us a nice, quiet, comfortable, luxurious cruiser!

I don't have an issue with them having a sportier VERSION of the LS. But overall I agree, the LS should be a smooth, silent highway cruiser. Thats what it always has been. Now that they have an LS F Sport I say leave the tighter suspension tuning to that...

I've put on new tires, Perrelli's 245/45/19. Tires are balanced, car is in alignment. I know they are low profile tires, but on a freshly paved road, i shouldn't feel anything. My 430 would purr, my 460 tends to growl when accelerating from a stop. Thus, noisier on acceleration. Quiet enough when cruising, but the slight vibration is ruining my Lexus experience. I have a 2007 GX470 that I think rides better at cruising speeds. Very disappointed with the LS460 when compared with other years and cars I've owned. This is my 3rd LS and 4th Lexus overall.

I have a 2010 LS460 AWD with A/S and can feel a vibration on freshly paved highways too. It's a high frequency vibration that can be felt on seat, floorboards, and steering wheel. I'm using stock 18" wheels, and my tires are Bridgestone Turanza EL42 with less than 10k mi's. Performed a roadforce balancing but did not help even one bit. What are the characteristics of the vibrations you're getting? Mine only happens in very specific conditions: between 60 - 70mph, car is coasting (does not vibrate when the slightest acceleration is applied), vibration is more pronounced when suspension is being compressed (going through a dip). I'm still going back and forth with the dealer who is not being helpful at all and blaming it on road imperfections. Quite disappointed with Lexus so far.

The EL42s are some of the crappiest tires I've ever encountered in my life. Nothing redeeming about them.

Check out the survey reviews at the bottom of this link from tirerack.

I ditched them on my 460L for the Michelin Primacys and it made a big difference. Still not good enough for me to keep the car, but a lot better than the EL42. They are absolute garbage.

Yes the EL42's should never have been put on this car. They are terrible.

Try putting the car in SNOW. It makes the car much smoother and changes the shift points to under 2000rpm's.

Yup, I can only think they got one heck of a deal from Bridgestone to put those on the car.

Default 460 Ride Quality

I also had a 2004 ls. Loved the car. It was quiet, had a great ride, and fun to drive.

Then I bought a new 2009 ls SWB.AWD. From the first week I had buyer remorse. It has a harsh ride compared to the LS430, and the LS460 was very noisy compared to the LS430. It also had a transmission problem that was fixed under a TSB. (I had to find the TSB and present it to the dealer.) I tried to get my old LS430 back---no luck it was sold.

I also had the Bridgestone tires. The worst tires I have ever owned. Bought Michelin tires after15K miles.

I just purchased a 2011 LS 460L with just under 30k miles and this vehicle also has a vibration at highway speeds. This car is AWD. The car only demonstrates vibration at >50 mph and only when coasting (not pressing the accelerator). What is the TSB #, so I may discuss options with my dealer? Does the TSB actually fix the problem? Reviewing the service history of the car does not appear that any TSB was performed or any customer complaints from the previous owners.

The issue is so annoying that if the problem cannot be adequately addressed, that I may consider dumping the car. I definitely do not want to do this as I would take a substantial financial hit. Also have the crappy Bridgestone tires on the car, but will not replace them unless other vibration can be adequately addressed. I am praying and hoping there is a fix for this issue.
