Default LS 460 v Mercedes E350

Ive been driving an older Mercedes E350 for many years and am considering a 2010/2011 LS 460.

Will the LS 460 be too large of a car for someone who has driven a Mercedes E350?

It's a larger car, whether it's too large for you depends on you.

Is an upgrade from an E Class in many ways.

I think you will easily adjust to the larger LS and it has so much more to offer.

The ride quality is significantly different (in my opinion) from the E-class; I rented a 2015 E-350 for a week and while it drove nice, it didn't hold a candle to my 2010 LS in terms of ride comfort and road noise. It is bigger, but not noticeably "boat-ish" that you would dislike it.

An LS is not so big as to be cumbersome. I wouldn't hesitate to change it up. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Funny...
A colleague of mine just told me a few days ago that he is becoming "worrisome" with his 2012 Lexus ES and is really thinking about diving into a new 2016/2017 E Class.
He says he's scared that the ES will begin to give him trouble.
I told him.. "You have not only one of the most reliable cars that Lexus makes, but one of the most reliable cars on the road-period! I'd better respect it if you said that your simply getting bored with the car, and you want something more visually appealing and more cachet".
He said.."Yeah..I guess your right!!"

Yes. Too large. You should just keep the Merc. Oh, and they've run out of LS's. No more available. You're welcome.

One of the guys at my cigar shop is a lawyer and drives a 3-4 year old MB E-350 which just turned 60K he had to put new motor mounts in about 6 weeks ago. Not covered by MB was not happy.

I just got rid of my 2010 ES. 90k and not one problem. P.S. Have I told you I'm in Love with my 460. I Really liked my ES, but I LOVE my 460! Don't bother with the E 350, you'll be disappointed.

Yes, the 2012 ES will be more dependable than the new Mer.
I found the E350 a bit cramped. So depends on what you want. But the E350 does drive and handle so much better. I like the sporty feel. Some like the boat or comfort feel.
I could not have owned a LS if I did not have the sport version. But that is just me.

This is an unfair comparison.

An E-class Mercedes is equivalent to a mid-size Lexus.

The LS and the S-class are peers, however.

It's not an unfair comparison if they are there cars you happen to be comparing

I'd say you gave your friend good advice, lol. The Lexus ES is probably one of the most reliable vehicles on the road, and unlike the LS the parts aren't as expensive. Your friend essentially owns a very nice Toyota Camry V6...a V6 that operates on good old regular gasoline (which is about 60 cents cheaper a gallon than super right now). And that six cylinder doesn't have a timing belt to worry about - probably the worst thing is replacing the water pump - everything is wedged on the right side of that engine...and the intake has to come off to do the rear plugs, but any independent shop can do these repairs.
