Default Warning Light Mystery --- Solved!

Had my first warning light go on today. A little scary. Not quite 8K miles on the car. My wife was in the right rear passenger seat with her feet up on the ottoman. The front passenger seat was all the way forward and up. After about 5 minutes a ding goes off and the warning light on the air bag goes on with a message that SRS Restraint System has a problem and to go to a Lexus Dealer immediately. I stop the car and restart it and the warning light comes back on with the message in about 3 minutes. I have an appointment so I drop off my wife and leave the car for about 2 hours. When I get back in - minus spouse, there is no warning light for the next hour or more. I stop at the Lexus dealer. He says, was your wife pushing her feet against the back of the front seat? That causes the air bag sensor warning to go off for the front passenger seat. I am thinking this may be a problem for those who have rear passengers who push on an empty front passenger sear. Anyway, I think the warning light mystery has been solved.

Good to hear that it wasn't a major problem, although it was quite a mystery for awhile.

I'm guessing your wife was stretching her legs? I find it interesting that activated a front passenger seat sensor, I was under the impression that one is a weight sensor in the seat. You can also notice in the center console that the airbag 'active' light goes on when that sensor is active.

But maybe this is a different sensor that senses the seatback position and deploys the airbag force accordingly? Or maybe for the side impact airbags (on Lexus they are in the seatback so they deploy right next to the passenger regardless of whether the passenger is reclined or upright).
