Do I need 100K-125K Extended Warranty for my 06 LS430?
I just picked up a 2006 LS430 with all the premium options last Thursday.
It has 66K Miles with the full service record (Every 5K Miles) from the same dealership.
The ride came with a 3 Year 100K CPO Warranty, but I am wondering if it
is prudent to extend it to a 4 Year 125K / 5 Year 125K warranty? I do know that it
will help with selling the car in future but how rock solid are the LS430 after
100K miles?
Questions:
What is known to break with age/high miles on the LS430?
Thanks

Dude, you don't need it. How much did they say it would cost? How many miles do you plan to put on the car in a year?
I know that Consumer Reports magazine says that often times extended warranties are not worth it. Your car has been driven an average of 22,000 miles a year which is more than average but as long as you have the CPO for the next three years you are more than good.
Timing belt will need changing between 90,000 to 100,000 miles. You don't have the UL so you don't have the air suspension worries. Don't worry about spending more on the 4 year deal...save your money for other things. Resale will depend more on how nice you keep the interior...no rips, and stains in the leather. Anyone buying a car that has over 100,000 miles is going to be taking a chance regardless and this type of car is a great car up to 200,000miles.
Just hope your NAV doesn't break once not under warranty. That is an expensive part...however I have only heard of a few people having problems with the Nav.
I have a friend that is a mechanic at the Rockville Lexus dealership and he insists that this car is one of the best made luxury cars ever built. Just keep up the services and all will be well for when you sell it later.
I think I am keeping mine (a 2004 that I just bought a month ago w/ 33,400miles) for 10 years minimum.
cheers,
Ian

i say don't worry about it, but there are certain people that just need a warranty and they will prolly get it.
welcome, and be sure to come out to the annapolis mini meet for crabs (in the neloc section, whenever they decide on a day and time), cuz i want more ls's to represent CL for once instead of the usual IS mob.

To the OP, I wouldn't pay for an additional warranty -- in the case of the LS it's definitely a bet the insurance is more likely to win.
BTW, I was at my local Lexus dealership a couple weeks ago and a guy was there with his 400K mile LS400. He said he'd only ever done the routine maintenance on it. The car still looked outstanding -- if the odometer read 50K miles nobody would have questioned it.

I think its all about peace of mind. From what I have heard and read about this car, extended warrenties can be a waist of money. If you don't mind the extra cost of the warrenty then purchase one. Most likely you will probably never need it.....but in the rare case that something does go wrong you have coverage. I just got a 04 ul and i am strongly considering a warrenty, mainly because of the air suspension that can cause an expensive issues should it go wrong. I am probably going to waist my money in getting one but i really don't care because i will be at peace should something go wrong with the vehicle. Just think if it as an extra insurance policy. I had my gs400 for 6 years. I have never even had to pull out my insurance card in 6 years yet the company made so much money off of me. An extended warrenty is a one time cost over a larger period of time. If i can get over the cost of insurance all of those years without having to use it, then i can get over purchasing a warrenty that i may never use as well. But that is just my opinion.

Warranty
I think you hit the nail on the head with the car's future sale. It will be much, much easier to sell a high mileage vehicle with a transferrable warranty. The buyer risks nothing in the sale. I would opt for the warranty on that premise alone.

When I bought my UL it was 2 1/2 years old with only 21,000 miles. I didn't intend to drive more than 14,000 miles a year. I was uncomfortable with the warranty expiring within a few years while I was far below the 100,000 mile expiration. Consequently I purchased a 5 year extension.
On the other hand my previous experience has been that when I didn't purchase the extension I regreted it. If I did purchase the extension, I never got to use it! In my opion pick your comfort level and don't regret it.

It all depends on if you're a "worrier" and worry about SOMETHING that MIGHT break and you'll pay up. I would imagine the 5 year/125K total miles warranty is easily going to run to $3000. The Lexus LS powertrain (engine/trans) is almost guaranteed (I'd say 99.9%) not to blow before 125K, so what is going to cost you $3000 in repairs? You'd have to have a multitude of electronics go on you or failures of say electric motors before anything even comes close to that.
Also, as someone has already noted, how many miles do you plan on driving the thing per year? The warranty is years or total miles, whichever comes first. So, say to 125K, you have 66K now, that's 59000 miles over 5 years which is about 12K/year. Not much really per year, so you're going to hit the mileage before the years.
If you need piece of mind, 3/100K CPO is more than enough IMHO.
