Default 5 speed trans shifting Q

Wondering if this is nromal for anyone witha 5 speed auto (ucf20-21)
when i accelerate slowly, grandpa style, the trans will go into 5th (OD) then 1 second later flare back up to 4th gear until im going a bit quicker then back to 5th.
This is annoying, and cause unnecessary heat and wear. I dont want to accelerate faster.
Is this normal?

Probably a combination of your driving style and the transmission characteristics, why not select 4 to prevent the upshift to 5?

i assume this is during a rolling acceleration, and not from a dead stop. is your ECT power on?

I only notice that when traveling up or down hills. The drop to 4th is evident when it senses downhill grade. Sometimes in low cruising speed I can hear the drop in gear. I manually hold my gears (3rd-5th) when needed because of the hilly terrain here. Plus I love the exhaust note...
