Drivers Seat Fixxed!!!
Just wanted to say thanks (been doing a lot of that in the last couple of weeks). Thanks to this website and its awesome members, tips, advice and tutorials I was able to replace the stripped out spline tube with a new replacement. No more drivin' ghetto!
Last weekend replace the three bad capacitors that kill the dash cluster lights.
Ordered a new climate control/clock LCD on Friday... supposed to be here before the weekend.
The enthusiasm of this sites members is contagious. The purchase of my 94 LS400 has become a great new hobby!
Thanks again,
Sammy

Instructions on link below.
There's also a tutorial for removing the radio/AC unit on the same website.

Just Finished LCD Replacement
Hey meteUCF10... missed your post till just now. I just finished replacing old climate control/clock LCD. Paid $39 from bmwhillstore@gmail.com on ebay.
steve2006's suggested link:
http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/light...LCDscreen.html
has a much more detailed instruction on the fix procedure. I was working off of Lextreme's tutorial:
http://www.lextreme.com/lcdtech.html
Would recommend reading both tutorials before proceeding. It took me a bit longer than expected (about 4 hours) but I tend to be over cautious on this kinda project.
Good Luck,
Sammy

It is quite annoying not knowing what temp and time it is while driving in the car.
I will look into it! Hopefully it all works out.

Questions & Tips
Oh... and a couple other little hints about replacing the LCD screen:
1) It's helpful if you have a small bench vice to hold the "white plastic do-hickey thing" connected to the circuit board so you can do your soldering without it moving around on you. Or you can do like I did and employ a friend or family member (who has some patients) to hold it for you while you first unsolder and than re-solder.
2) When removing old LCD, leave old solder on the board! It's much easier to re-use the old solder to reconnect the new LCD pins!
3) I used a dental pick(hook shaped) to dislodge the LCD pins as the solder heated up and then bent them completely back and out of the way. The dental pick was also very helpful when re-soldering the new pins down... just heated up the old solder with the iron and pushed the new pin down into it. I also used the dental pick to lightly scrape off/remove any excess solder between the pins afterwards.
4) Also very helpful with this project, especially for me and my kinda poor vision, was a pair of jewelers magnifying glasses. The pins on the LCD are pretty tiny and close together. It can be done without I'm sure, if you have good vision, but sooooo much easier when magnified!
Again, Good luck, let me know how it goes,
Sammy
