Just as the title states I found a super cheap ls400 for like $1500 it only has 147;000. I'm so happy
I always wanted a LS 95-00. I just wanted to know are there any specific problems or common issues to look out for. I know in my sc300 it has the cluster problem.

billyd: can you describe that sound? I think I might have an EGR leak but I am not sure. The sound I hear from my 1LS is right on top of the engine every time immediately after starting the car cold. Sort of a whistle (high pitch) kind of sound. It goes away in less than 2 minutes and does not come back.

as for the OP, i would check the power steering lines below the reservoir as it tends to leak and drip down into the alternator. when it does it will cause the alt to fail prematurely. also be sure the timing belt, wp, etc was replaced at the proper interval. i've heard of cars at that mileage with the original belt. good luck!

I know this sounds really weird, but I can tell a helluva lot about a Lexus LS by looking at the driver's seat!!
driver's seat looks nice = the whole car will be nice (little Asian lady likely owned it, kept it in the garage, and was gentle with everything and had all the scheduled maintenance done at the dealership)

Watch out for starting problems. I'm in middle of swapping out the starter in the '94 I bought a couple weeks ago. The previous owner was hiding it by warming the car up before it was driven, so the solenoid was able to make contact consistently. It's a pain in the *** to replace (never mind the knock sensor I managed to break getting it out), but it gives me an excuse to swap out the seeping valve cover gaskets and clean while I'm at it.

some folks blocked theirs off, I just replaced mine, Texas inspections use an exhaust sniffer, and I didnt want to have to do it over.....
