Default check engine light after new plug wires

so i just changed my plug wires and now my check engine light is on. i tried starting my car when the battery was disconnected because i forgot, could that set a code

pull the neg. battery cable w/o the key in the ignition and you'll clear the code.

i normally pull the cable for about 5mins, but if the light is still on that means something is tripping a sensor, so you need to read the codes...
