1995 LS400 Immobiliser?
Does anybody know if a 1995 model Australian delivered LS400 has an engine immobiliser standard or not? If not, is it possible to fit one and have it fully integrated with the existing keyless entry system?

The transponder keys began on the '97 LS400 and this is an integrated feature built into the ECU. On these models, there is an amplifier behind the dash to pick-up the signal from the key which relays it to the pooters/ECU.
Trying to fit one of these from a different car may not work as these units are coded from Toyota with specific programming and with a specific key. You'll need the master key and matching ECU along with the wiring harness, amplifier and who knows what else. Not to say it cannot be done, it presents many challenges to fit one to an older model.
I would suggest finding a 97+ or an aftermarket unit.

Just picked up my '95 LS400 . I've shopped around for some quotes for an aftermarket alarm/immobiliser system, but on browsing the manual for my new car, it has an entire section on the "anti theft system". This describes an immobiliser function and alarm as being included with the car. There is a "Security" light on the dash, just next to the ignition. Perhaps an alarm/immobiliser was fitted to Australian delivered vehicles in 1995, but not US? Or am I mistaken?

The ignition kill has been present on a variety of Toyotas since the mid 80's. Essentially, you will have an ignition kill if the system is triggered. That only is if a door, trunk or lock is opened while it is armed. The timer locks the ignition for a specified time.
This system can be by-passed and is by no means an efficient deterrent. From what I understand, the ECU is looking for a key be inserted and turned to neutralize the system. It doesn't know that the intruder just used a slide hammer to pull the ignition lock and turned it with a screwdriver. Possibly the LS is more sophisticated than I am aware.
Glad you brought it up, I'm curious to learn what improvements in security Toyota took.
