Were talking about a very faint rattling sound you can hear with the radio off, over certain types of pavement only. My wife thinks I'm nuts. That certainly qualifies as "relatively rattle free"

It it shouldn't be there, but it's not anything that would keep me from buying the car again. If you read the forums for say the S550, they have issues more significant than that.

I keep trying to find a "safe way" to enter into the Mercedes brand, but there is no holes anywhere.

Anywhere you go, any model you choose, is pretty much a butchers block of customers being slaughtered.

The classifieds are littered with guys trying to dump their cars before the warrantee expires, or before another failure hits, and BMW is no better.

Im not a Hyundai guy at all, but I don't blame some of you guys for going that route rather then going german, cant go wrong there.

I don't know that I agree with that. I know several people that drive pre-owned MB products and they don't have any problems. It all depends on what you're buying, new I think you're fine, CPO under warranty I think you're fine. If you're buying something quite old or plan to keep it for a really long time I agree it's not the best move.

FWIW, I just got done chasing down a mysterious rattle in '13. For me it was coming from the front driver's side, just beyond the dash and happening over rough/uneven pavement. Drove me nuts! Luckily, my dealer figured out the issue. Here is the summary in case it helps you:

DESCRIPTION: FRONT SUSPENSION ~|~C/S RATTLE NOISE OVER CHOPPY PAVEMENT WHEN DRIVING FROM DRIVERS SIDE FRONT;ADVISE ~|~LACK OF CLEARANCE BETWEEN DRIVERS SIDE FRONT A-POST AND DRIVERS SIDE FRONT FENDER; ADJUSTED CLEARANCE BETWEEN A-POST AND DRIVERS SIDE FRONT FENDER; NOISE ELIMINATED

I thought it was a suspension component or a brake caliper rattling, but I suspect that after hitting the mother of all potholes here in Chicago, my front left fender might have become a bit "unsettled," who knows.. Thankfully, it's now quiet as can be and it's a real relief. Hope you figure out yours too!
