Default Sport version?

I am looking at a couple of 2011 LS460's to purchase and they are the Sport version with upgraded brakes, special interior, paddle shifters, etc. I have owned the normal LS models for 10+ years (currently have a 2007 LS460). Does anyone have experience driving a Sport version and can you share the pros and cons to this version vs normal models? How is the ride/handling different? What about road noise difference?

Compared to the 2014 BMW 535i with 18" run flats, the 2011 LS 460 in standard mode with 19" non run flat tires feels about the same. The Sport mode is firmer and handles better (with expected weight differences to the BMW). In comfort mode, there is too much body roll and rear passengers feel queasy at times.

Keep in mind that the 2014 535i is a little bit sportier than the 2011-2013 535i and BMW Run flats add harshness.

The Brembo brakes generate a lot of brake dust as well.

I liked the 2014 BMW infotainment more than the 2011 Lexus system but my first BMW was also my first lemon. Lexus could learn a lot from BMW though (super smooth interface, Google integration with the GPS, 24-bit Flac support, 1080p h264 video support, ntfs over usb, etc)

There is better handling with the Sport but not to be compared with a BMW. There is more road noise than the 2007 LS460 SWB due to the 19" wheels. There is a LOT of brake dust with the Brembos. I would have preferred the shiny wood trim over the dull finish version. I like the paddle shifters and use them quite a bit. Have not had that since my first Lexus, a 1999 GS400. The upgraded interior is nice. I have no regrets. The car runs perfectly, brake squeal is acceptable and I have yet to use the SPORT mode. The RC F is looking good to me.

I agree. The paddle shifters are lot of fun, especially the rev up when down shifting. Brembos consistently slow the mammoth with brake dust that will turn your wheel gray over a few days. Sport Mode firms the ride but not harsh....still too soft for me, but I'll take what I can get.

yeah but as a former *owner* of the BMW, the so-called sportiness if the 5 series is matched by the LS460 Sport. The 5 series with the 704 M-Sport Suspension should beat the LS Sport in sportiness though. Keep in mind that the F10 5 series is a lot less sporty than the E60.

There is a lot of body roll even in Sport Mode but the active dampers seem to firm up after allowing some initial body roll which gives you a lot more control than you expect. The same is true for the steering. There isn't a lot of feel and there is a lot of boost, but even then, there is predictability and control. You can't get around the physics of size but you can use tires like Michelin AS3 or PSS with firm sidewalls to enhance performance too.

For "spirited driving" on public roads the LS460 Sport is pretty solid. For driving like a hooligan or track use, a GS is the far better choice.

I could not own a LS without sport mode. Love the car except for a few things. Without sport mode it would be too boring to drive. To much like a boat feeling. Also my wife gets car sick easy but no problems with the sport.
I think regular brakes would have been fine and could do without the brembo brakes with twice the brake dust.
