Default Need help...2007 LS460 poor fuel economy

A friend of mine bought 2007 LS and the car does 13mpg in the city and around 18mpg on the hwy. What could it be?

are those numbers from computer (shown on screen), or from calculations using gas pumped vs miles driven?

Yes those numbers are from the screen and also from getting 300 miles on a tank of gas

300 is low. You should be getting 350-400 with freeway/city mixed use on an always warmed up engine. Check your intake air filter. If that one is old and dirty your mileage will suffer big time. Another thing, your mileage will improve if you run 38-40 psi on the tires. Calibrate them when cold.

Something is seriously wrong. I remember some time back another person related the same problem. I can't remember how, or if, it got resolved. You might try a search or a member here might remember it.

Is he driving in "S" mode? I get 24-25 in mixed driving, but you can't experience all the power the car has and get that mileage.

My LS gets 23-23.5 mpg mixed and dropped to 21.5-22 mpg after I installed the 22" wheels. I am surprised at 18 on the highway. Cars will tend to lose mpg when it gets really really cold.

When my car had 0w20 oil, I used to get 400 miles on a tank. When I switched to 5w30 fully synthetic oil, I barely get 300 miles.

What did you do to your air filter? did you use K&N? Did you modify your air filter box by taking out the stock air filter like this?
air filter box modification

The original post is 7 years old, so you may not get an answer. I suspect he just changed a dirty old air filter for a clean new one!
