Default Anyone ever have clear coat come off?

I'm guessing maybe the bottom plastics were repainted?? The car looked great until I purchased it and cleaned it at the car wash with the pressure gun. Over time I took some of the clear coat off the bottom door panels on ALL four doors. I couldn't believe that this would happen with Lexus factory paint job. I've brought it to 3 places and none of them could tell me if it was repainted or not. But the repainting costs are pretty expensive, I guess the pearl color?

Does your car wash have automatic wheel cleaning brushes? If yes, do they rub on the bottom panel of the car?

The other day I was doing emissions inspection and watching other cars getting washed and didn't really like the way brushes cleaned the wheels but also rubbed on the bottom portion of the doors.

Here is what I am talking about but in the video brushes are not touching the bottom portion of doors.

That is interesting any pictures?. One door you could say it was a poor adhesion on a repaint, but all 4? The wash I sometimes go to has a laser or such and a simple singular spindle which comes out to do the rim. Can you watch the wash next time?

Wheels are pretty easy with the right brush at home. Got pictures?

I think it has something to do with the Pearl paint finish, my wife has a GX 470 that's pearl white, and the lower plastic cladding has a touch of this clear coat peeling (but none on the metal surfaces)

Her paint job is original and has always been garaged.

It's VERY slight though, just a small patch of it here and there that you'd really have to look for.

Thanks a lot guys. I did think it was bizarre that it happened on all plastic surfaces except the bumpers. And I was the one who used to pressure gun at the self serve car wash and ripped off the clear coat, not the drive through. But I do see that it could happen from that also. Do you think if I went to the dealership and *****ed and complained they would do something about it like give me a discount on repainting it? If you spend all that money of a car you would think that they would stand behind the paintjob also....

The dealer is unlikely to take the responsibility for the paint. On your '05, that's 8 years of being out in the environment. Any pics?

The dealer is not going to take responsibility unless it was a really recent purchase.

If it's as significant as you're saying, it probably was resprayed at some point. I doubt it's 100% factory.

It's very common for dealerships to have their used cars "touched up" with some resprays before they sell them on their lots. I have a relative that owns a dealership and he has an "airbrush" guy employed by the dealership.

Still, if it was a real Lexus dealership that you bought the car from, you haven't owned it long, and the peeling is significant, it's worth a shot to have the dealership address it. The worse they can do is say no.
