Sounds like they are checking to see if it was damaged by you versus a defect in the console parts. Get your wallet ready, this does not sound promising. Good luck. Let us know the outcome.

it is standard procedure for extracare to send out an adjuster to inspect the car if the cost is over a certain dollar amount. the adjuster just looks at it and sends picture to extracare. then extracare decides what they are going to do. that dollar amount is lower now that the economy is the way it is. Also the extracare extended warranty doesn't pay the technician very well FYI.

Just had the same circumstances with my front cupholder. The car is still under CPO. The cupholder would not stay in. The warranty company told the dealer they DO NOT cover interior pieces that break. I went through the roof. I asked the dealer if that covered a defective seat belt since that is an interior part. I also filed a complaint with lexus in California. The dealer finally picked up the cost of replacing it, but I believe Lxus corporate reimbursed him for the part which by the way costs 184 bucks and 20 minutes to install.
The squeaky wheel gets the oil. When I wa in the dealership originally I told them I would not leave without a positive answer. I even called Lexus in CA from the dealer.
Hats off to Scanlon Lexus in Fort Myers, Fl for going the extra mile. Not the same feeling for Lexus extra care. By the way Lexus farms ut the CPO stuff to a warranty company...just so you know.

Storage bin is what? The cigarette lighter part, or the coin bin? Hard to imagine that replacing these two parts would require the whole console being replaced. Or is it glove box? I don't think that would require a whole new console.

Gentlemen,
I had the exact same problem develep with my 03 LS430. Kept getting worse over time and the above repair link is exactly the fix. The screws that connect the hinge come loose and the torque on this hinge provided by the spring changes the geometry of how the armrest closes. I put some permatex thread lock on them screws when I did the job. Center armrest closes just right now. A bit tricky to get to the screws though but can be done. As explained, you will not completely take apart the armrest top, just unscrew it to get inside to the loose problem screws. Always interesting how the same week spots appear numerous times but dealer never saw this before, Good luck
