Blizzaks (or other) for LS430 Winter?
Anyone use Blizzaks on their LS? I am thinking about buying 4 for my '03 LS430. We're talkin' Pittsburgh.
Or is there a better winter tire?

A coworker of mine has a '95 Q45. He runs 4 Blizaaks here in NH and he says it's fine. We had about 10 feet of that white ***** around here last year. Since that's a rear driver as well, I'm looking at getting them for my LS. It seems my 21YO son has appropriated my '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee winter beater vehicle.

After reading Consumer Reports, I am more confused than ever. The guys on the alt.autos.lexus newgroup are saying to get the Nokian WR tire. Consumer reports gives the best ratings to, believe it or not, a Goodyear tire. Yet, most of the better rated winter tires are for BRAKING. While braking is always important, my main concern is traction up a snowy Pittsburgh hill from a dead stop. Any more ideas?

I did have blizzaks on my 1996 Impala SS for winter only. They were wonderful. I am not sure about noise didnt cat to much about it in the winter. Very soft tires only wil get say 20,000 4-5 winters out of them . Though that should be enough as much as most of trade cars.

Blizzaks
I put them on my LS400 last winter and they are excellent! Just be sure to put on all 4 wheels. I live in Mass. and we had many snow storms . I have steep driveway but no problem.

Here's another view of the OEM Dunlop tires from alt.autos.lexus:
My 2001 LS came with the Dunlops and they've performed extremely well in
our icy Kansas winters. Our storms usually put an inch or three of snow
over heavy ice. The LS on the Dunlops is more sure-footed on icy stuff
than anything else I've ever driven except maybe a '67 VW Beetle.

OK, after much investigation, I ordered 4 Nokian WR tires. While they are "merely" all-season, they are the only all-season tires with the severe weather thingie on them. Enough people, many at alt.autos.lexus convinced me that this is the best tire for me. We get lots of minor snowfalls, but haven't had too many "avalanches" in years (knock on burlwalnut). And when it's THAT bad, I'll take my wife's Mercury Mountaineer. But the stock Dunlops, by appearance and from what I've been told, won't go at all in the snow. So we'll try these.
