That's a reasonable price. I'm guessing it needs a timing belt, so I would use that to knock it down as close to $5 grand as I could.

I would offer $4.5k, since it may need a belt as aptoslexus mentioned, and it may need some other repairs.

Then, I would try to get the owner to meet in the middle.

Nor am I, chuck; however, I would like to get it for a good price, considering repairs that may be necessary. As I said, I'm assuming it needs a new belt and some mechanical repairs.

$5200, which is between $4.5k and $5.9k is a very fair price, with repairs needed...

[A timing belt change costs around $600 as-is]

As long as it has zero damage and repaint. The price is not too bad. How bad do you want it?
Try to get some off for need of timing belt stuff, if the timing belt was done and it has a good service history, you are getting a decent car for the price. Here a dealer would ask 10k plus for it. Always hit them with a lower price don't wait too long.
Make sure everything works. If AC does not work that's a huge deal, almost on the order of a bad transmission depending on the problem.
Check the engine oil make sure it looks clean, coolant, transmission fluid etc. good tires? any front end noise and looseness, drive a bumpy back road.
All lights okay? Any lights in the cluster on or out? Make sure the correct transmission fluid was used if it was changed.
Any problems need to detract from the price.
