LS400 Lack of power during acceleration?
was looking into purchasing a LS400 I believe it's a 92'. The guy says the car runs fairly but he mentioned it seems like it's lacking power during acceleration. He's selling the car for pretty cheap since he can't figure out the issue. I was wondering is it something common with the LS400's? Could it be a catalyic converter clogged or the O2 sensor? Or possibly might be as simple as replacing spark plugs? If it isn't anything too much I'll probably buy it today. I just wanted some input from other LS400 owners before I go ahead and make the purchase if it isn't a bad one

test drove it earlier tonight it didn't have much power but it gradually picked up. It definitely was missing and didn't run on all cylinders. It could have been something as simple as needing wires (wishful thinking). Who knows, I was smart and didn't impulse buy im looking at a few other LS400's hopefully I can get a decent one. If this one needs a simple fix I may still consder it, I just wanted to get feedback from other LS400 owners before I actually made a move and picked it up.

thanks! I can't wait to get it. It's looking like I'll need a few things like a center console trim the owner told me someone stole his cd player out of the car a long time ago and they also cut the wires that go to the radio connector. So I'll have to find the stock tape player. Besides that the interior is very clean! It has a low Idle and a check engine light on. I didn't see any oil leaks or p/s leaks at all. Hopefully it's not a hard issue to fix but for under 1,500 it seems to be a steal

I have found that if you budget about a grand when buying a used car that usually takes care of everything for a long while. If you do the work yourself you can do everything at 1/2 the price.
Low idle is often a dirty throttle body / idle port. If you get it, post the code on the engine light.

Even the most cared for LS of that vintage is still a 20 year old car, so I would budget for several little DIY issues that will crop up and buy more based on how nice is the body, interior, and whether it has ever been in an accident. - because even the best LS is a bit of a money black hole - lol - so it needs to be one you LOVE - your favorite color, etc.

The owner says it's never been in an accident, has a clear blue title. I really wanted either a black or white lexus mainly because all the nice VIP cars I was into was either one of those colors. But hey a car can always be painted so I didn't want to get too picky.

But it can be so worth it.

yup with my other drift cars i know how a money pit is trust me haha but this is strictly for go to work and back home nothing too crazy. So as long as it runs decent and i don't have to spend an arm and a leg to keep it moving then im content but $1,300 for a running LS400 with perfect body I really can't complain lol
