getting a LS 400!
Hello everyone I am pretty active on many Toyota forums and I seek advise here please.
I have a chance to purchase a 1990 LS 400 for a pretty good price and I want to know from the more experienced here what I need to look for or advise on any known issues I should look out for.
She has a few dents and the drivers seat is a little ragged but seems to be in good shape. I will have all weekend to test her out so if any one could help me out with what to look out for I would really appreciate it.

PS Leak is common on them, if they did a new pump thats a plus! Id check for timing belt date, and regular maintenance was done.
I am also looking as a 1st Gen LS400, Ive always liked them!
What kind of miles does she have?

Wish you were in AZ, I have a good friend at Toyota that looks over all the Lexus guys cars here before purchase.
I would give it a nice drive and over look everything. Depending on how much you are paying for it, might be worth it. If you are good with the wrench these motors arent too expensive if you do have a failure.

I have 2 91's. I got my 1st one almost 7 years ago - knock on wood - it's been a great car. . I did the timing belt a year ago and it was the first time I'd ever done one - it's basically all wrenching so I didn't have any problems - just take your time. These cars are great provided they've been well maintained. Check out the UCF10/11 faq: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...ls400-faq.html

ok it has 201,000 miles on it i asked the guy that owns it and he says he used to put in about a quart in every 1000 miles because it had a oil leak which he got fixed didnt know where it was leaking from. enging is a little rough at start up when cold but smoothed out. a little white smoke from the exhaust at start up seems like water vapor from this morning it was sprinkling a bit this morning. display above AC control is blank so I guess thats the only problem from the interior ac seem to work didnt sit there long enough and didnt have any idea how to adjust the temp so i guess down on the temp switch on the left of the panel means lower lol its was slightly cold for a few seconds and I shut it off i only had a few minutes. engine compartment looked pretty clean for 200K some signs of oil leaks but no drips under the car good sign i guess.
